1. Why Straight Cut Triangle Ceramic Media?
1.1 Straight Cut VS Angle Cut
Ceramic media is a brittle material. Angle-cut triangles have sharper corners and edges and provide deeper penetration into remote areas. However, straight cut triangle media have lower possibility to chip and break when compare with angle cut media.
Angle cut media offer more point contact, while straight cut media offer more planar contact. So the flat sides of straight cut triangles make them good choices for straight edges rounding (edge breaking or radiusing). In addition, large size triangle media is preferred because it have larger radii and reduce process cycle.
1.2 Cylinder shape VS Triangle Shape
When finishing 90 degree edge, triangle shape ceramic media can reach into corner easier. Cylinder shape however, hard to contact recess. This leaves surface at corner unpolished.

Also, engineer selects right grade of abrasive grit, the proportion of abrasive to binder, and the most suitable binder. All these factors contribute to the ceramic media performance. As a result, the right selection of media meet requirement of certain parts and application.
While abrasive grit cut material from parts, the binder acts as a burnishing surface, and this works against rapid cutting.
