Ceramic Tumbling Media (Angle Cut Triangle)
Triangular shape ceramic tumbling media provides uniform action and is effective in reaching corners and slotted areas. We can also make other size ceramic media that not show in the table, so please contact us to get detail information
1. Why Angle Cut Triangle Media?
1.1 Angle Cut VS Straight Cut
Straight cut media pros and cons: Ceramic tumbling media is a brittle material. However, straight cut triangle media have lower possibility to chip and break when compare with angle cut media.
Angle cut media offer more point contact, while straight cut media offer more planar contact. So the flat sides of straight cut triangles make them good choices for straight edges rounding (edge breaking or radiusing). In addition, large size triangle media is preferred because it have larger radii and reduce process cycle.
Angle cut media pros and cons: Angle-cut triangles have sharper corners and edges and provide deeper penetration into remote areas. Moreover, sharp head of angle cut media gives more power to deburr and cut.
1.2 Cylinder shape VS Triangle Shape
When finishing 90 degree edge, triangle shape ceramic media can reach into corner easier. Cylinder shape however, hard to contact recess. This leaves surface at corner unpolished.
2. General Properties
2.1 Features of Ceramic Tumbling Media
- Engineering use Ceramic tumbling media mostly metal components deburring and cutting
- Ceramic tumbling media have varieties from Medium to Fast cutting
- Ceramic tumbling media have wide application rage. It suitable for vibratory finishing machinery and most other surface finishing machine.
2.2 Ceramic Tumbling Media Composition
Manufacturers make ceramic tumbling media with mixture of several mineral materials. These materials including: abrasive grit, clay, feldspar and sand. Later, theses material mixed homogeneously and stirring machine with constant water dosing. After that, a vacuum compressor removes void in the material and make it a solid and rigid material before drying and baking.
First of all, ceramic tumbling media are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Also, engineer selects right grade of abrasive grit, the proportion of abrasive to binder, and the most suitable binder. All these factors contribute to the ceramic media performance. As a result, the right selection of media meet requirement of certain parts and application.
While abrasive grit cut material from parts, the binder acts as a burnishing surface, and this works against rapid cutting.
